It’s basically The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Without the pants. Or the traveling.
I was too young for this to be a vital coming-of-age movie for me (and it lacked the constant cable TV presence of Dirty Dancing to win over a new generation) but just the right age to see all of these actors come into their own in the ’90s and ’00s. So, it’s a hoot to go back and look at them all in these early days.
If you grew up watching Now and Then, but you’ve never seen Mystic Pizza, you should. If you don’t feel at home in the genre of vintage adolescent-ish sisters-before-misters fare, feel free to give it a miss.
